A former NYPD detective and 9/11 survivor advocate died early Friday from cancer related to his work sifting through the rubble after the Sept. 11 attacks, the Daily News has learned. Dennis Murphy, who traveled to Washington DC in June with other first responders to lobby congress to renew the 9/11 compensation fund bill, was admitted to hospice care at Saratoga Hospital in upstate New York on Tuesday, according to friends.
