Our Voices: 9/11 Living Memorial
Just a small note of appreciation to Mary and all at VOICES who present and host the annual conference in Manhattan on September 10th at the Marriott. My wife, Kathleen, and I have attended the conference since it's inception and we anxiously look forward to attending again this year.
It was my privilege to witness a special moment. A woman stood at the smart table with her grandchildren. They clicked on the photos while the grandmother told them stories that went with each one. “Oh, that was your father’s first communion.” “Oh look at how handsome your uncle looked on his wedding day.”
A few nights ago, the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings faced off for the first game of the 2014 Stanley Cup. At VOICES, we feel a special connection to the two teams in the finals this year. We are excited for the Rangers, our hometown team, to be in the finals for the first time since they won in 1994.
Every face has a story. When I walked into the In Memoriam exhibition at the 9/11 Memorial for the first time, I was surrounded by faces of people whom I had never met - and yet I knew very well. For the past 7 years, their loved ones have told me their stories, showed me their pictures, and introduced me to their families. The tributes that I have helped them to create in the Living Memorial.
