Office of Military Commissions December Hearings Update

Hearings in the U.S. v. KSM et al (2) began on Monday, 16 December 2013 as scheduled. On four occasions last week, Mr. Bin al Shibh became disruptive in the courtroom. After repeated admonitions from the Military Judge to stop disrupting the proceedings, Judge Pohl had Mr. Bin al Shibh removed from the courtroom. On 18 December 2013, the Defense filed a motion, AE 152F, alleging that Mr. Binalshibh is being exposed to noises and vibrations in his cell that interfere with his ability to concentrate or sleep. Remembering Our Friend and Colleague, Darlene Johnson

I am writing with the sad news that our longtime friend and former co-worker, Darlene Johnson, has passed away after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. First and foremost, Darlene was a personal friend who quietly supported our family through a challenging time after 9/11. We will always be grateful! Darlene was also instrumental in shaping Voices of September 11th - first as a volunteer and board member, and later in a leadership role at VOICES for over 5 years. Learn More.

Help Victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest recorded storms in history, devastated entire towns in the island nation, including the cities of Basey and Tacloban, where thousands are missing and officials say the death toll could reach 10,000. According to the UN, more than 600,000 displaced residents across the country are in desperate need of food, water, and medicine. Dedication of the Kitsap 9/11 Memorial on September 11th

The Kitsap Memorial Committee will hold their annual 9/11 observance and a dedication ceremony for the Kitsap 9/11 Memorial on September 11, 2013 at 6:00 pm. It will take place at Evergreen Rotary Park at 1300 Highland Park, Bremerton, Washington. Learn More.

Voices of September 11th Annual Day of Remembrance Information Forum

Save the date for the Voices of September 11th Annual Day of Remembrance Information Forum in New York City on September 10, 2013. The Forum will be held in the Marriott Downtown Hotel at 85 West Street in New York City. This is a free program, but reservations are required by September 6th. Learn More

9-11 Memorial Service in Rochester, NY

A memorial service will be held in Rochester, NY at 10:00 am on Sunday, September 8 in Rochester, New York. It will be followed by a First Responder Lunch which will be open to all. To attend the lunch, contact the Rochester Christian Church Ministries at 528-247-4444. Learn More.

Bergen County September 11th Memorial Commemorations

Bergen County will remember those lost on 9/11 and acknowledge the military heroes who died in serving our country since the attacks. A ceremony will take place on September 11th at 11:30 am in Hackensack. A second ceremony will take place in Leonia on September 15th. All Bergen County residents, employees, first responders, uniformed personnel and veterans are invited to attend. Learn More.

VOICES Interns Interview Reporters

Student interns from Voices of September 11th traveled to the New York City offices of CBS News on August 6th to learn firsthand about the challenge of reporting on the 9/11 attacks. The interviewees included New Canaan resident Jeff Fager, Chairman of CBS News and Executive Editor for "60 Minutes," Jim Axelrod, Anchorman and Correspondent for CBS News; Bill Owens, Executive Editor for "60 Minutes;" and Tom Anderson, Producer for "60 Minutes."
